Musical Director - Andrew Wailes

Andrew took up the appointment of Musical Director with Box Hill Chorale in 1995 and, since then, has developed the choir into one of the state’s leading community choirs.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Certificates in Applied Music (Orchestral and Choral Conducting) from Monash University, has studied advanced orchestral conducting with the late Robert Rosen and has worked extensively with international choral conductors including John Rutter, Peter Godfrey and Simon Halsey (UK), Stephan Parkman (Denmark), Rodney Eichenberger and Jo-Michael Scheibe (USA), as well as many of Australia’s leading conductors.

In 1999, Andrew was the inaugural winner of the prestigious Australasian International Choral Conducting Competition.

With a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy, Andrew conducts several other choirs and orchestras based in Melbourne including  the Royal Philharmonic Choir, the Australian Classical Players, the Melbourne University Choral Society, and the Australian Children’s Choir. He is also a regular guest conductor and teacher at various schools and universities.

Accompanist - Evan Cresswell

Evan joined the chorale as principal accompanist in 2002. He holds an A.Mus.A. (Perf) from Melbourne University and has worked as an accompanist for many years with various choirs including Heidelberg City Choir, the Victorian State Opera Company, the Melbourne Chorale and Chamber Singers, and Victoria Chorale, as well as being involved with many Lieder Recitals.

Evan is not only a proficient accompanist but is also a conductor in his own right (a useful ability if Andrew is unable to attend a rehearsal). Evan is the former conductor of the Doncaster and Templestowe Choral Society, the Evan Cresswell Singers and the Heidelberg City Choir (now Heidelberg Choral Society).
